Crew Profile
Captain Gregory Pogan grew up with a love of the water. From childhood his family owned a boat, and summer vacations were spent at Lake Cumberland, KY. At the tender age of five years old “Pogan” as he likes to be called, learned to help his dad steer the family pontoon boat.
Pogan first visited St Thomas in the summer of 1998, to witness a wedding. Falling in love with the islands, he did not waste any time, and moved to St Thomas in the fall of 1998. Originally from Ohio, Pogan studied Management and Marketing at Ashland University, but after working on land in St Thomas for two years, he realized that his passion was for boating and the sea. Pogan earned his USCG 100 Ton Captain’s License in 2001, and quickly set about trading his 9 to 5 job for a life of freedom and adventure on the sea.
Captain Pogan has spent the last 15 years exploring the waters of the Virgin Islands as a charter captain and rescue diver. Pogan loves nothing more than to be out on the water, with visitors and locals alike, sharing the beautiful sights, abundant nature, and amazing stories he has collected over the years about our local Caribbean islands. Laid back, professional, and knowledgeable are some terms frequently used to describe his personality. Captain Pogan looks forward to helping the guests have experiences and create memories that they will treasure for a lifetime!
Your First Mate, Sadie Cowley, will greet you warmly aboard the Sailing Yacht Sirena with a chilled cocktail, warmed towel and brilliant smile. She will assist you putting away your luggage before you and your group set sail into the Caribbean waters.
Sadie, while not born in St. Thomas has lived on island since she was five. She began working with her father as a boat builder and quickly fell in love with everything the ocean has to offer. Her mother is a jewelry designer and her work showcases the Caribbean lifestyle.
She spent several years working in the back of the house of restaurants and catering companies, honing her culinary skills. She has an innate skill in creating delicious and healthy dishes aboard S/Y Sirena as well as a talent for concocting smooth, tasty drinks for all aboard!
With her Merchant Mariner credentials in hand, she set sail on the waters of the Caribbean to show her guests all the beauty of the tropical waters. Her experience in the Virgin Islands gives her the ability to guide guests into lesser known places that boast quiet opulence of beaches and snorkeling spots. She knows many of the honey-holes filled with tropical fish along with some of the turtles and sting rays favorite dining spots. She will show you some of the most beautiful under sea life the waters have to offer.
You’ll certainly enjoy your time aboard with Sadie as her personality and humor with captivate you while aboard, her deliciously prepared meals will make for your perfect vacation.
