Crew Profile
Ken Fisher
Ken’s passion for sailing began at an early age when, at any opportunity, he would be on a sailboat with family and
friends. When he realized he wanted to spend as much time as possible on the water he obtained the credentials necessary, including the RYA Yacht Master 200T license. Ken has done numerous boat deliveries as well as his own
boat at the time, from Cape Town, South Africa to the British Virgin Islands in 2002. He has been sailing around the
Virgin Islands for over 21 years developing a love for the islands and their beauty, a vast wealth of local knowledge
of the area as well as making many friends and contacts. Ken’s calm demeanour was crucial during his 33 years as a
professional firefighter where panic had no place and safety first is of utmost importance, this has been invaluable to
Ken as a captain along with his sense of humour. Ken is now retired from the fire department and is able to fulfill
his dream of being a full time Captain. Ken’s love for sailing is most apparent when conveying to guests his enthusiasm for the intricacies and thrill of sailing, making the charter an experience guests won’t forget. Ken also runs a
tree company and has been a climbing arborist for over 35 years. Ken loves to play hockey, ski, surf, golf, is a certified diver along with being a skilled angler and he is always up for a game of pool. Ken or “Fish” loves to cook up a
fire station breakfast and is known for his amazing buttermilk pancakes fondly know as“fishcakes.”
Jane Troop
Jane was born in Gibraltar and moved to Canada at a young age where she grew up sailing in southern Ontario. She
spent many years at the summer cottage sailing and operating various water craft along with enjoying waterskiing
and wake boarding. There was a revolving door of guests that she loved to cook for and entertain. As a
geography and phys. ed. teacher she was able to impart her love of learning, sports and her interest in different countries and their cultures onto her students. When her three children were young she stayed home with them and dedicated herself keeping a very active household running smoothly. A former gymnast and ski racer, Jane still loves to
ski fast, surf, cycle, hike and golf. Jane’s extensive cookbook collection attests to her passion for cooking and she
never ceases to amaze people at the delicious and creative meals she can prepare. She loves putting on dinners for
family and friends where everyone is welcome and the more the merrier! She focuses on healthy, hearty dishes using
fresh, local produce and is used to catering to different needs and tastes. Jane spent several years working in the
restaurant business which gave her an appreciation of and foundation for, menu planning and guest satisfaction. She
has traveled extensively, in 2018 she spend six weeks in India where she successfully completed the 200 hour yoga
teacher training course. She has sailed around the Virgin Islands for over 12 years, one of her favourite destinations.
Jane’s bubbly, friendly and welcoming personality ensures a relaxed and enjoyable experience for guests.
Ken and Jane met in the BVI in 2013 and together love to share the amazing experience of sailing, snorkelling,
beach combing, hiking, exploring, relaxing and delicious food with their guests. It always thrills them to see guests
experience the Virgin Islands for the first time. Both have their STCW, Marine Radio, Marine First Aid and the Ontario Safe Boating Certifications.

This Yacht offers a “Plus Expenses” Rate:
Included are the Yacht and its onboard equipment as well as the Captain, Chef and Crew’s services.
Excluded are food and beverages, fuel for the yacht and its tender, any dockage, airport transfers costs, onshore excursions and tours, as well as any cruising permits, licenses and other charter related expenses. Crew gratuity, although optional is customary at 15% - 20% of the charter rate for the Caribbean and 10% - 15% for the Mediterranean.
Advanced Provisioning Allowance:
For "Plus Expenses" charters, yachts request an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), which is generally estimated at 20% - 25% of the base charter fee for sailing yachts (catamarans and monohulls) and at 30%-35% for motor yachts. The APA essentially creates a bank account for the Captain to purchase provisions, fuel, dockage, food, beverages, bar, and other consumables on the charterer's behalf. The Captain will keep all receipts and manage a running balance of the account, so that expenditures can be checked at any time. Any amount not used will be refunded at the end of the charter. If during the charter the costs have exceeded the collected APA, then additional funds will be required for the outstanding bills. All purchases are transparent and nothing is marked up. The APA is used purely for the charterer's provisions and charter-related expenses.
