|Number of Crew:
Growing up in the Rocky Mountains and Southern California, Jens was always drawn to the water, mountains and adventures. His first encounter with the sea was love at first sight. From surfing and diving with great white sharks to competitive racing on Hobie cats.
Jens served as a U.S. Navy patrol boat captain for 4 years, worked on and delivered numerous sailboats and worked on large luxury yachts in the Atlantic and Caribbean waters. He also helped start a yacht club in the Rocky Mountains and developed adult and youth training programs.
Eventually, Jens discovered that he enjoys the more personal experience that smaller yachts offer. He loves swapping stories with guests, deep philosophical discussions and building new friendships. He is happy to teach sailing and seamanship to any of his dedicated guests. He has helped some guests make their dream to bareboat come true (don’t be surprised when they dinghy over to say hello). He also loves showing all the best and most beautiful kiteboarding spots to anyone that also rides.
He has always been drawn to activities based on relationships with raw elements around such as water, earth, air and gravity, that create a deeper sense of connection with the world around him. Captain Jens hold a commercially endorsed Offshore 200 ton RYA Yachtmaster, also a U.S. Coast Guard 100 ton Master and a PADI Divemaster. With over 30,000 miles at sea. Safety is one of his top priorities, which is a regular comment you hear from guests after a charter.
Ji grew up in South Korea, in Incheon, the city that never sleeps. The culture revolves around food and is abundant in seafood from the Pacific Ocean.
She got into sailing on what started out as just a friendly activity, but ended up sparking the beginning of her first date with Jens, on his Hobie racing catamaran which seamlessly faded into night sailing under a magical full moon on the horizon, an eye opener for a city girl. Later, she earned crew certifications and served on yachts large and small, including a regatta race crew in New England. She’s been a full time charter chef since 2015.
Ji cooks up the most unique cuisine of American, Korean and Caribbean flavors, spiced with her curious, unconventional personality.
She believes in simple, healthy fresh food cooked with local ingredients, lots of love and a pinch of story. Of course she is happy to talk about food and recipes at any given time with the guests.
She enjoys the company of a small group where she can make a deeper connection with each person, over a crowded atmosphere. She also likes to chat on spirituality, meditate around sunrise and have a cup of tea, or some of their home brewed kombucha which they have everyday, and are always happy to share. Ji enjoys cloud watching, playing piano, and dark chocolate.
It's hard not to notice that Jens and Ji are activity seekers yet without a competitive nature. Their motto would be “you compete with yourself". Some of the things they enjoy together are: traveling, free diving, scuba diving, rock-climbing, hiking, running, roller-blading, mountain-biking, snowboarding, skiing, yoga, kiteboarding and paragliding. They prefer to think of these activities as “food for the soul” rather than just hobbies.
Jens and Ji believe that the purpose of life is simply to enjoy it wholeheartedly; to relish the gentle breeze through the sails, to see the big picture of life from the clouds high above, to meet the eyes of a fish in the ocean, to laugh together, to meditate over a cup of tea and enjoy the little things!
“Come share these little joys with us. Make yourself at home, become friends, and enjoy every moment of it. Welcome aboard!” - Jens & Ji
