Captain Gideon Smith hails from South Africa, and worked in the oil and diamond industries before beginning his career in yachting in 1988. Currently based in the United States, he’s sailed the waters of the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, Brazil, the Bahamas, Central America, Mexico, Hawaii, and both coasts of the US. His goal as captain is to provide a high standard of hospitality to charter guests, and plan itineraries that will create lifelong memories for them. In addition, he has delivered yachts to new locations and assisted with refits and refurbishments. Captain Gideon and his crew look forward to welcoming you aboard M/Y CLARITY.
Jana Smith Alaxova - Chief Stewardess

Jana Smith Alaxova was born in Slovakia, and started her yachting career in 2008. With a background in catering and hospitality, she has trained in many aspects of the yachting industry. With previous experience as a Stewardess, Deckhand and Chef on both private and charter vessels, she brings her high standard for guest service to her role as Chief Stewardess on M/Y CLARITY. Jana’s excellent organization and planning skills allow her to anticipate the needs and wishes of owners, crew and guests, ensuring that operations and charters run smoothly. Her strong work ethic combined with her desire to experience new things make the yachting industry a perfect fit.
Martin Rayno Snyman - Chef

Chef Martin Snyman is from the small town of Humansdorp, South Africa and is the youngest of three children. Growing up, he loved playing golf and cooking for his family and friends. He worked at a restaurant that was ranked in the Top 5 in South Africa and in the Top 100 internationally before discovering the yachting industry in 2010. He realized that a career at sea would allow him to travel while learning cuisines from around the world, and has been working on yachts for over ten years. One day, he would like to open a restaurant that showcases everything he learned while cruising the globe. Of the places he’s traveled to date, he finds the beauty of Costa Rica the most enchanting. When not at sea, Martin is still an avid golfer, and is always up for teaching his friends about the new dishes he’s created.
He worked on 110' ALEXANDRA JANE for two years and 145' AT LAST for a year. He now looks forward to brining his culinary skills to Motor Yacht CLARITY.
Peter James Hardwick - First Officer

Peter Hardwick was born and raised in Durban, South Africa, where his love of the outdoors and the ocean began. He started his yachting career as a chef before becoming a bosun in 2015, working on private and charter vessels in the Caribbean, the Bahamas, the Mediterranean, South and Central America, Alaska, and both coasts of the United States. While he is continuing to build his skillset in the industry, he excels at managing and training deck crews, overseeing all exterior duties, and ensuring all safety protocols are in place. Plus, he can even step in for the captain as required. His friendly and hard-working spirit is a welcome addition to the crew of M/Y CLARITY. In his leisure time, Peter enjoys diving, fishing, surfing and skiing.
Boudine Nagel - Second Stewardess

Boudine Nagel was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, and has always been drawn to travel and the sea. After visiting her sister, a yacht charter broker in the Bahamas, Boudine decided to join the industry, beginning as a Third Stew in 2016. She brings her passion for the industry and outgoing nature to her role as Second Stewardess aboard M/Y CLARITY, ensuring a memorable experience for charter guests. A team player who also works well independently, she is always seeking opportunities to acquire new skills and further her yachting career. When not working at sea, Boudine enjoys spending time with family and friends, surfing, paddle boarding and snorkeling.
Sheldon Johnson - Engineer

Sheldon Johnson was born and raised in the Bahamas, where he continues to be based. He started his maritime career in 2008 working as an engine cadet aboard bulk carriers, and was a junior engineer by 2010. His engineering experience includes work aboard commercial vessels, passenger ferries, motor yachts, tugboats, and roll-on/roll-off vessels. He also gained hospitality industry experience while working as the engineering supervisor/assistant manager of openings for the five-star resort, SLS Baha Mar in Nassau. Sheldon now brings his skills and positive attitude to the crew of M/Y CLARITY.
Inclusions and exclusion are not standardized across the different yachts, with each offering slightly different terms. Please contact us for a proposal that details the yacht’s availability, individual pricing based on the number of guests in your party and particular dates, as well as the list of the inclusions and exclusions for that particular yacht.
This yacht offers an “All Inclusive” Rate:
Typically this includes all your breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks. Standard Ship's Bar which includes your alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Fuel for the yacht and its tender, and the necessary water for the onboard facilities. Use of the Yacht’s onboard equipment and the Captain, Chef and Crew’s services.
Excluded are airport transfers costs, onshore excursions and tours, as well as any food or beverages purchased ashore. Although optional, crew gratuity is customary at 15% - 20% of the charter rate for the Caribbean and 10% - 15% for the Mediterranean.

This Yacht offers a “Plus Expenses” Rate:
Included are the Yacht and its onboard equipment as well as the Captain, Chef and Crew’s services.
Excluded are food and beverages, fuel for the yacht and its tender, any dockage, airport transfers costs, onshore excursions and tours, as well as any cruising permits, licenses and other charter related expenses. Crew gratuity, although optional is customary at 15% - 20% of the charter rate for the Caribbean and 10% - 15% for the Mediterranean.
Advanced Provisioning Allowance:
For "Plus Expenses" charters, yachts request an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), which is generally estimated at 20% - 25% of the base charter fee for sailing yachts (catamarans and monohulls) and at 30%-35% for motor yachts. The APA essentially creates a bank account for the Captain to purchase provisions, fuel, dockage, food, beverages, bar, and other consumables on the charterer's behalf. The Captain will keep all receipts and manage a running balance of the account, so that expenditures can be checked at any time. Any amount not used will be refunded at the end of the charter. If during the charter the costs have exceeded the collected APA, then additional funds will be required for the outstanding bills. All purchases are transparent and nothing is marked up. The APA is used purely for the charterer's provisions and charter-related expenses.
