Captain
Brief
Captain Ron Christie | South African
Ron grew up in a coastal town in South Africa and from an early age boating has been a huge part of his life. He spent most weekends either fishing, scuba diving, or doing water sports. Naturally he followed a career at sea and has spent the last nine years working on yachts all around the world. He holds a Yacht Master 200 Ton License. Ron has been the Captain onboard ESSENCE OF CAYMAN since May 2020 and has just finished up a year long maintenance period to breath new life into the yacht. Ron leads his team with passion and by example, and he will go out of his way to ensure guests satisfaction and safety at all times. Ron now lives in South Florida where he met his fiancé and is very much a family man while not at work. Waters cruised: Mediterranean, Caribbean, Bahamas, Thailand, Maldives, & US East Coast from Florida to Maine.
Ste/Cook Tegan Beling | South African
Tegan, or Tegz as she prefers to be called, is a South African-born stewardess who has been in the industry since 2018. Tegz has a quirky and fun personality, and when you see her onboard she will most likely be smiling from ear to ear. She has an undeniable passion for travel and really enjoys opportunities to meet new people while she does what she does for a living. Tegz has an incredible eye for detail when it comes to event planning and will always transform an area into a space that fits perfectly to your requirements, she will always ensure that you feel most comfortable and as the South Africans would say, she hopes you have a “Lekker” (wonderful) stay onboard ESSENCE OF CAYMAN.
Deck / Stew Gabby Gammon | American
Gabby is from Montclair, New Jersey and has always spent her summers in coastal Downeast Maine on the water sailing and boating. As she comes from a family of mariners, sailors, and lobstermen, she has been engrained with a deep appreciation for the ocean since she was young. She graduated from Manhattan College in May of 2020 with a BFA in Communications, majoring in Media Production and minoring in Film. While in college, she worked in the film industry in New York City, behind the camera for ESPN, and as a freelance graphic designer before she moved out of the city after graduation. Gabby is a “creative” and is passionate, and her love for the ocean and history of boating drove her to the yachting industry to get sea time and explore the waters and new places. Gabby received her STCW in Newport, Rhode Island and has been on board ESSENCE OF CAYMAN since March of 2021.

This Yacht offers a “Plus Expenses” Rate:
Included are the Yacht and its onboard equipment as well as the Captain, Chef and Crew’s services.
Excluded are food and beverages, fuel for the yacht and its tender, any dockage, airport transfers costs, onshore excursions and tours, as well as any cruising permits, licenses and other charter related expenses. Crew gratuity, although optional is customary at 15% - 20% of the charter rate for the Caribbean and 10% - 15% for the Mediterranean.
Advanced Provisioning Allowance:
For "Plus Expenses" charters, yachts request an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), which is generally estimated at 20% - 25% of the base charter fee for sailing yachts (catamarans and monohulls) and at 30%-35% for motor yachts. The APA essentially creates a bank account for the Captain to purchase provisions, fuel, dockage, food, beverages, bar, and other consumables on the charterer's behalf. The Captain will keep all receipts and manage a running balance of the account, so that expenditures can be checked at any time. Any amount not used will be refunded at the end of the charter. If during the charter the costs have exceeded the collected APA, then additional funds will be required for the outstanding bills. All purchases are transparent and nothing is marked up. The APA is used purely for the charterer's provisions and charter-related expenses.
