About

Having recently completed a 3+ year and $4 million + authentic restoration, the 80’ Trumpy motor yacht BB has returned to her original 1947 splendor. Understatedly called a “houseboat” by her designers because the yachts offered her owners all the comforts & amenities of home, Trumpy was considered the Rolls-Royce of American Yachting. Known for their meticulous craftsmanship owners of Trumpy yachts included the likes of Howard Hughes, the Guggenheims, Dupont’s, Chrysler& Dodge families. BB has generous walk-around decks and high stations with varnished teak cap rails. The aft deck has a large custom built varnished teak oval dining table which offers spacious seating for 8, with a curved banquette aft and 4 sturdy mid-century teak dining chairs. The “card room” – which doubled as the original owner’s office, is located forward. The card room offers great views while underway or at anchor and is a wonderful space with a cozy settee aft, and a forward ¾ day bed for sleeping an additional guest. The opening windows have custom wood venetian blinds and port and starboard doors provide excellent natural cross ventilation for an alternative to the yacht’s new air conditioning system. The foredeck is graced by a large centerline sliding teak hatch for deck access to crew quarters & galley. Master Stateroom: The beautifully appointed master stateroom is located aft and features a queen size centerline berth with original framed mirror above and flanked by matching dressers with generous drawers on either side. A large flat-screen television is hidden when not in use. There are 2 large hanging lockers and a 3rd with deep shelves. Period bedside reading lamps are located on either side of the mirrors with easily accessible controls. Twin bench seats offer additional storage. There is individual air conditioning control and the ports have restored original hand-crafted varnished teak shutters to darken the cabin for a restful night’s sleep. The en suite bathroom features a teak and holly sole with a large washbasin, lighted storage, a large, tiled stall shower with seat and a Tecma fresh water flush head and traditional mirrored “medicine cabinet” that is original to the yacht. VIP Guest Cabin: Exiting the master stateroom, the starboard VIP guest cabin has a walk-around queen bed and a large bathroom that can be accessed through the cabin or via the hallway. There are two large dressers, generous hanging lockers, period lighting, ports with sliding room-darkening varnished teak shutters and private climate controls. The ensuite bath has a teak & holly sole, a large, tiled stall shower with teak grating, porcelain sink with mirrored original medicine cabinet, and Tecma fresh water flush head (toilet). Guest Cabin 3: opposite the VIP cabin is the 3rd guest cabin that has been nick-named the “Nanny Cabin” -- as it has a lower double bed and upper single bed, a large hanging locker and generous dresser and the en suite bathroom is what is referred to as a “wet head” because it has an integral shower. The teak-grated flooring speeds drying after a shower and there is a sink with original mirrored medicine cabinet. The Nanny Cabin has air conditioning controls and ports with sliding room-darkening varnished teak shutters. Built in the era when a game of bridge was a favorite past-time there is a “card room” forward on the main deck that has a day bed which can sleep a 7th guest. There is a day head in the salon with toilet & sink. Crew quarters are forward of the galley & completely separate from the guest areas, with private crew head & shower.

Brief

Captain Charl Engels (Charl is pronounced Sh-arl) proudly hails from South Africa. He has been active at
sea for over 30 years on both sailing and motor yachts – both charter and private. With 20 of these
years spent primarily on sailing yachts, Charl has explored the US Atlantic Seaboard & New England,
crossed the Atlantic many times, and sailed in the Mediterranean, Indian Ocean, and Caribbean Islands
& Bahamas.
Completing countless yacht deliveries on motor yachts, and racing & cruising sailing yachts has afforded
Charl the opportunity to not only log sea miles, but to hone his seamanship skills and become a very
accomplished marine engineer.

Stewardess / Deckhand Christine Regan and her husband Charl are true optimists who seize each day, and together share a passion for travel, new culinary encounters and exploring new destinations. On their journeys Charl can be found chatting with locals and searching for their next amazing dining experience.

Christine was raised on Florida’s Gulf Coast and brings to BB an extensive background in hospitality & table service, having spent more than 15 years in some of the finest hotels & restaurants in both Chicago and Austin. She joined the marine industry in 2019 and quickly become an accomplished deckhand & stewardess, working on both the interior and exterior of very large yachts.

Christine is adept at not only assisting on deck, but also at setting an elegant table, providing silent & seamless service, and wine & beverage pairing. She has an eye for detail, a warm and welcoming personality, and a sensitivity to anticipate guests needs (including the need for privacy) and thereby enabling guests to enjoy a relaxing experience on board BB.

Chef Caroline McCarthy always had a passion for all things culinary and at a young age would read cooking books. During her career in the catering industry in England Caroline learned from some great chefs and her natural organizational and creative skills flourished. She went on to work as a chef in private homes and vacation residences. This eventually led to cooking on yachts during which time she studied and earned her license as a mate, stewardess and then Yacht Master. Caroline is also a trained accountant and certified scuba diver. A true renaissance woman with a wealth of varied experience she has logged well over 100,000 sea miles. Caroline has a sharp and discerning eye and very high standard to make each meal on charter unique and memorable for her guests.

As charter yacht hosts, Captain Charl, Stewardess / Deckhand Christine & Chef Caroline are committed to providing guests on BB with a safe and yet graceful environment. They set their personal bar very high, and their shared goal is always to provide a charter experience beyond expectations.
