Captain Kyle Taylor and Chef Erica Van Ausdal

Captain Kyle began sailing at University in Bellingham Washington. From there he went on to acquire his first job on the water while crewing on a Schooner in the Mediterranean. He continued to build his resume working aboard ships in Tampa, Florida where he attended Sea School and later received his 100 ton USCG Captains license. Since obtaining his license, he has logged over 10,000 nautical miles, spanning the Mediterranean, Caribbean, South-Pacific, North-Pacific and Atlantic. Initially his focus was in boat deliveries to and from the U.S. East coast and the Caribbean, then later shifted into the teaching domain. After instructing in the Caribbean, he has spent the last several years teaching ASA courses throughout the San Juan Islands in Washington State.

Chef Erica fell in love with the water when she sailed through the San Juan Islands and up the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia as a child. Since then she has spent several years working as crew on small adventure yachts between the Hawaiian Islands and South East Alaska. She has also spent time working in the hospitality industry at a two Michelin star restaurant and several fine dining establishments along the West Coast of the United States. She is a Court of Masters Sommelier and seasoned bartender who loves working with local ingredients. In her free time she loves racing sailboats, traveling around to new dive spots, and surfing the West Coast. She is eager and ready to create incredible memories with you in the Caribbean.

How would you qualify skipper:
Capt Kyle was terrific and hope he can be our Capt again. He took us to beautiful and protected coves. He was communicative on next day plans and open to alternatives. Also had gois knowledge of St. Thomas and St John areas of interest.

How would you qualify rest of the crew:
Erica was awesome. We all looked forward to the meals she made. They were full of a variety of tastes and creativity. We were never hungry. She was personable, helpful with a variety of requests, and a heck of a bartender. A pleasure to be touring with.

How would you qualify the yacht (comfort, features, general maintenance, etc):
The Ruckus is exceptional in all ways of night time comfort and stability, various outside seating areas, galley and lounge area beautiful, sound system, and water toys.

How would you qualify the itinerary:
Since BVI was intended but went to USVI due to covid, we had exceptional diving and snorkeling seeing many varieties of ocean life. We stayed at beautiful beack coves. Happy we did USVI so it leaves another trip for the BVI's.

How would you qualify the sports and leisure activities/equipment on board:
The Snuba was very cool. The individual foam floats were excellent and very stable for just hanging out. Capt Kyle's float line was handy when wind and current picked up. The inflatable SUPs are good for lakes but were not too stable in wind and waves. Worked well as floating bar but I suggest rigid more stable boards for paddling. Another suggestion woukd be a removable sun shade for Bow sitting area or upper deck. Dingy was fantastic.

How would you qualify the food and drinks:
We were we equipped for food and beverage. I was happy with what was served any not looking for a 5 Star cuisine. A was delicious and seemed healthy too. Bonus.

How would you qualify the entire experience of your trip:
Fantastic. A resort can not match this. Would definitely do again.
