Other Green Initiatives
Rubicon has charcoal filtered Reverse Osmosis water which is high quality, and avoids all those plastic bottles. Rubicon has re-usable Tervis tumblers (instead of bottles) with a different marine animal on each one so easily identifiable. If you wish to "go green" and help the environment Rubicon is a good choice of charter yacht. No need for A/C as you can experience the breezes from the tradewinds as with open hatches and electric fans they are usually quite sufficient to keep you cool.

CAPTAIN: ADAM DREFFIN
Adam was born in the Exumas aboard the boat of his parents. He was a real water baby. He shot his first lobster at age 6. As a youth, Adam would disappear into hidden coves with his brother, trolling for fish while handling a sailing dinghy. He explored everywhere and is familiar with every island. His passion for the Bahamas is evident.

Adam's parents, along with his younger brother Warren, all set off for a world cruise on their sailing boat once the boys reached teenage years, so Adam is also very widely travelled to many exotic parts of the world. When they reached Australia the boys went to school and college there, whilst their parents continued their cruise back home to the Bahamas.

Summers during school, Adam captained catamarans for Broadreach Sailing School in the French West Indies with high school kids aboard. He's also captained large yachts in New England and delivered vessels from the Mediterranean. He has run charters aboard Rubicon for several years in Exumas, Bahamas.

Adam holds an MCA Master of Yachts 200 Tons. In addition to being a highly skilled captain, he is an avid sportsman on the water. He kite-surfs, windsurfs and relishes catching game fish while trolling between islands. He is also certified as a Sivananda yoga instructor.

CHEF/HOSTESS SOPHIE DIFILIPPO
Sophie is highly skilled , both as a chef and a captain holding a USCG Master license. She has a magnetic smile, an endearing personality and radiates the kind of happy that rubs off on everyone around her. Maybe that’s because she grew up on a small farm outside of Philadelphia with three, doting older brothers. Loving, fun yet challenging, a lot like yachting.

Sophie says, “Growing up I always had a strong passion for the ocean. I always waited with excitement for Friday after school to race down to the beach so I could go sailing. I was always outside, snowboarding in winter and in summer fishing and playing in the creek behind our house. On summer weekends my Dad and I would head to the beach to sail, racing most Wednesday nights on the Chesapeake.”

It was also thanks to Dad that Sophie became such an excellent chef. He taught her his Great Grandmother’s Italian recipes and she grew up cooking for the family. When she was just 14 years old she began working in an Italian restaurant and by 17 she was working on sailboats as a chef/mate. She quickly achieved her captain's license and worked as a delivery skipper. For the last two years she’s been delighting guests as chef/mate aboard a charter yacht in the Exumas, Bahamas.

Favorites meals to prepare: Italian dishes, fresh fish, and Greek dishes. Friends and guests especially rave about her sauces. Sophie is also adept at special meals, kids’ menus and restricted diets. Her motto: “Do what you love and love what you do.” Cooking and eating well top the charts!!

Crew:
Adam Dreffin & Sophie Difilippo

How would you qualify skipper:
Adam was very accommodating with our requests and very knowledgeable. He worked very hard to ensure our trip was special and memorable.

How would you qualify rest of the crew:
Sophie is an incredible baker. Her daily fresh breads were a treat! Her chicken was a little overcooked but overall great cook. Her fish dishes were also wonderful even the cracked conch which I had my doubts about.

How would you qualify the yacht (comfort, features, general maintenance, etc):
No additional comments

How would you qualify the itinerary:
We missed a couple things due to the weather so it could not be helped.

How would you qualify the sports and leisure activities/equipment on board:
They need some additional floating devices.

How would you qualify the food and drinks:
See comments above regarding food. Adam could come up with a couple more daily drink specials. We are mostly a beer and wine group so we were happy.

How would you qualify the entire experience of your trip:
We had some rainy weather that put a damper on a couple days but it was of no fault to the crew.

Crew:
Warren & Ashly

How would you qualify skipper:
Worked hard and tried to make the cruise enjoyable

How would you qualify rest of the crew:
Ashly was great both as a chef and who helped out on all activities. A real pleasure to deal with.

How would you qualify the yacht (comfort, features, general maintenance, etc):
Yacht was well set out. Beds were cramped and there was limited mosquito netting on portholes and windows

How would you qualify the itinerary:
really enjoyed the itinerary and the coves and bays we visited as well a the sights.

How would you qualify the sports and leisure activities/equipment on board:
good

How would you qualify the food and drinks:
Felt let down here. Food was nicely prepared by Ashly who did a wonderful job but not of a very high quality. Asked for lobsters and received small tails (illegal actually in a place where boats were all over the place selling lobsters), ordered 5 bottles of pinot noir wine and were told it was too expensive so we had to drink some cheap stuff which was not we asked for. Also only 6 tins of beer on the boat. Preference sheet set out that we liked healthy food but ended up having, cheap granola and yogurt, simple canned salmon and tuna salads and 3 times we had tortillas which again were nicely prepared but not much quality. Over all the food and drink was disappointing and no where near the calibre that we were led to believe would be served.

How would you qualify the entire experience of your trip:
Really enjoyed the trip. The weather was perfect, the water was wonderful and the sights were just great. Well worth the trip.

Crew:
Adam Dreffin & Jennifer Anne Aemilia Iceberg

How would you qualify skipper:
Adam was terrific. Very accommodating and friendly. Quite knowledgeable about the area and secluded spots to go.

How would you qualify rest of the crew:
Jen was awesome. Gifted at creating unique food combinations using common ingredients.

How would you qualify the yacht (comfort, features, general maintenance, etc):
Older boat, but very comfortable and functional.

How would you qualify the itinerary:
A great combination of remote, secluded spots and a couple of stops in 'civilization'.

How would you qualify the sports and leisure activities/equipment on board:
Kayak and paddle boards were excellent. Snorkel and spearfish gear fine as well. Loved being able to troll for fish off the stern while under sail (caught four fish, one was delicious!).

How would you qualify the food and drinks:
Adam makes a great gombay smash. Jen's appetizers were fantastic.

How would you qualify the entire experience of your trip:
We are now officially hooked on sail chartering! Thanks!
