CREW: JACO AND SIMONE DE WET
STEWARD: EUAN
With Jaco, Simóne, and Euan as your guides aboard Tru North you’ll immediately feel at ease. They are warm, joyful, and you’ll always feel reassured when in their care or listening to their beautiful accents as they regale you with stories of their ocean travels.
Jaco grew up boating and living along the coast of South Africa; he went on his first week-long boat trip with his dad at the age of two and hasn’t turned back since. Born in Namibia and having grown up in a small coastal fishing town called Velddrif in South Africa, the ocean is his second home. He is an avid fisherman whose spearfishing game is as strong as his freediving, sense of humor, and captain's cocktails.
Jaco is an accomplished man of the seas having worked his way up the ladder from Cadet to Chief Mate Unlimited on different vessels ranging from chemical tankers to mining vessels, circling the globe at least four times, until he entered the yachting industry in Monaco as Mate and Master. Be sure to ask him about his most daring adventures when you meet and let him know if you want to experience sailing hands-on - he is your perfect guide to hoist the sails.
Simóne was born in South Africa and split her time between England and a small surf town in South Africa, Jeffrey’s Bay, where she learned that life along the coast is where her heart and soul was meant to be. Her dedication and pursuit of learning has helped Simóne garner a wealth of experience in a variety of domains from creating masterpiece meals, to capturing underwater footage, and more - all which she can’t wait to share with you. Be sure to express your culinary wishes and let her know if you want to join her in the galley to take part in a unique food focused experience - especially if you’ve caught that night's dinner.
Jaco and Simóne fell in love with sailing, and then with each other, having married along the way in their travels. Their passion for the ocean and preservation of marine life inspired them to become Scuba Divemasters and they would love to guide you through some of the most exclusive dive locations in the Virgin Islands.
Rounding out our seasoned crew is Euan, an English born lad who grew up in Umhlanga, South Africa. With a desire to venture beyond the beaches, he fell in love with yachting and fishing when he wasn’t playing academy level soccer. As an accomplished man of the sea, Euan would love to tell you tales of his 57 kg yellowfin tuna catch or his National Geographic level experience stargazing while on night watch. Better yet, he’d be happy to guide you to create stories like that to take home to share with family and friends.
For Jaco, Simóne, and Euan, their home is truly the ocean and they cannot wait to welcome you to their home which will quickly become your own aboard Tru North.

Inclusions and exclusion are not standardized across the different yachts, with each offering slightly different terms. Please contact us for a proposal that details the yacht’s availability, individual pricing based on the number of guests in your party and particular dates, as well as the list of the inclusions and exclusions for that particular yacht.
This yacht offers an “All Inclusive” Rate:
Typically this includes all your breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks. Standard Ship's Bar which includes your alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. This Yacht offers a “Plus Expenses” Rate:
Included are the Yacht and its onboard equipment as well as the Captain, Chef and Crew’s services.
Excluded are food and beverages, fuel for the yacht and its tender, any dockage, airport transfers costs, onshore excursions and tours, as well as any cruising permits, licenses and other charter related expenses. Crew gratuity, although optional is customary at 15% - 20% of the charter rate for the Caribbean and 10% - 15% for the Mediterranean.
Advanced Provisioning Allowance:
For "Plus Expenses" charters, yachts request an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), which is generally estimated at 20% - 25% of the base charter fee for sailing yachts (catamarans and monohulls) and at 30%-35% for motor yachts. The APA essentially creates a bank account for the Captain to purchase provisions, fuel, dockage, food, beverages, bar, and other consumables on the charterer's behalf. The Captain will keep all receipts and manage a running balance of the account, so that expenditures can be checked at any time. Any amount not used will be refunded at the end of the charter. If during the charter the costs have exceeded the collected APA, then additional funds will be required for the outstanding bills. All purchases are transparent and nothing is marked up. The APA is used purely for the charterer's provisions and charter-related expenses.
