Captain Sheldon Lindsay
Sheldon is a qualified RYA Ocean Yacht Master Commercial endorsed with over 400,000 nautical miles under his belt. He has sailed in all the oceans of the world. Started sailing at the age of 8 on dingy competing at various regatta's. In his late teens, Sheldon began sailing at Royal Cape Yacht club for many years racing on various keel boats. He is a qualified diesel mechanic. He also judged World Cup wind surfing for a couple of years and is good all-around water sportsman. Sheldon is a good teacher and will get you up on the wake board or ski's with his coaching. He has lots of stories to tell of his many ocean crossings of the world including scrapes with pirates and Cape Horne. Anything on the water comes naturally to him having grown up in Cape Town, South Africa were surfing and sailing is a year round experience. Being involved with the ocean, diving, surfing and sailing is his life.

Chef Vanessa Bush
Nessie, as everyone calls her, started chartering in the Caribbean in the 1980's and then went on to circumnavigate the world on a 40 foot steel boat. She is a chef with years of experience in boat catering and in villas in Europe specializing in Italian/French and Caribbean cuisine. She has over 100 000 nautical miles under her belt, ran the galley at the well known Atlantic Boat Club in Cape Town. Also spent her time raising children, running the local pony club and eventing on her horse whenever she had the time while running her late husband’s fishing business. After that started chartering in various parts of the world with Sheldon experiencing different cultures and cooking experiences.

Both Sheldon and Vanessa have open water dive and advanced first aid certificates. They enjoy entertaining and meeting new people from all parts of the world, having chartered in the Caribbean the Med and Thailand and sailed the Pacific.

Capt. Leon Venter & Purser Wendy Venter - Joining SAIL AWAY for November through March, 2022

Leon and Wendy Venter are South African and Zimbabwe born. Both are outgoing and have a love for sailing and water sports, deciding to leave their corporate and business world behind in South Africa to pursue their love for the outdoors in the stunning Caribbean.
In South Africa, Leon had his own engineering business for thirty years plus, doing on-site machining for the sugar, petroleum, paper and marine industries in South Africa and other African countries. Leon has been sailing recreationally since a young boy and has always had a passion for the sea and diving.
Wendy was involved in the corporate world of Mercedes Benz, being on the financial side for several years and with the Barlows Group previously. Her love for the outdoors, sailing since a young girl with her family in Zimbabwe and then South Africa, as well as her love for diving, made their decision to re- locate to the Caribbean, an easy one.
Wendy and Leon have sailed extensively up the East African coastline on their own catamaran and have raced several Vasco Da Gama yacht races, from Maputo in Mozambique to Durban in South Africa. Leon has his Master of Yachts Offshore to 200 tons Captain’s license as well as his South African Coastal Skippers License. Leon is a PADI certified Divemaster of several years. Both he and Wendy have been in the charter industry in the Caribbean since 2011, working from St. Vincent and the Grenadines to St. Martin and then the British Virgin Islands.
Leon and Wendy look forward to having you on board the luxurious Sail Away, to pampering you and tempting your taste buds with the delights Wendy brings from the galley, indulging you in your favourite water sport, whether it be diving and re-living the history of the Virgin Islands, snorkeling with the abundance of sea life, testing your skills at paddle boarding, kayaking and exploring the coastline with your partner or just simply relaxing on the trampolines, soaking in the sun.

Lisa Mead - Your chef on SAIL AWAY
Originally from Queensland, Australia, chef Lisa Mead has spent the past 25 years cooking between Australia, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. She has created epicurean delights for all walks of life including royalty, heads of state and celebrities on board luxury yachts, in 5 star villas and restaurants. In addition to her time spent living in South East Asia, where she gained valuable experience with the local cuisine, if asked Lisa would describe her cooking as global, pulling from different cultures, using only the freshest of ingredients.
Currently Lisa is being filmed in her own cooking show as chef and host of a series titled: Galley Gourmet With Chef Lisa.

Mike is beyond amazing !!! What a sailor, sommelier, adventurer, friend, guide -- and extraordinary combination !! Like Lizzy the super First Mate he did it with love and style and grace. We all miss Mike telling us to STAND UP STRAIGHT to get into the Rib.

How would you qualify rest of the crew:
Lizzy -- took care of us all !! Is a Joy !!! Makes beautiful tables and is a happy loving spirit at all times. I think the boat would sink without her -- we all ADORED HER !!! Lisa a gem among gems !!! Her food is extraordinary !!! Her presentation exquisite and she is so fun to have around !!! She hand painted our cards !!! She gave us lobster and tenderloin in the same day !! OHHHH and the mushroom soup !! And the insane pistachio shrimp gnocchi !!

How would you qualify skipper:
Leon was the BEST!! It was so nice to have someone that knows the islands so well. We had so much confidence in him that he knew the best places to go and we felt like we were in the best hands at all times. He was always so pleasant and just a joy to be around! He was the best snorkeling guide, too!

How would you qualify rest of the crew:
Wendy was incredible. No one on the crew would ever let us lift a finger! Wendy made us all feel so comfortable at all times, she was the best hostess. Wendy and Leon made the best team. They went above and beyond what we would ever have expected on the trip. And there aren't enough great words to say about Lisa! We lucked out having her on our boat. Every meal was incredible. She had her work cut out for her with a couple of picky eaters on the boat and she handled every meal perfectly. We ate like kings all week!

How would you qualify the yacht (comfort, features, general maintenance, etc):
The boat was perfect. Our room had everything we needed as well as the bathroom. The whole boat was so clean and there was so much room to always hang out. We loved the front trampoline area with the beanbag chairs and especially loved being up above. There isn't one negative thing I could say about anything on the boat! It was perfect!

How would you qualify the itinerary:
Exactly what we wanted. I have been to the BVI before, so I sent Wendy some specific things to do and they were already planned on our itinerary. We went to so many amazing snorkeling spots and visited so many islands. We were active when we wanted to be and lazy when we needed to be!

How would you qualify the sports and leisure activities/equipment on board:
Perfect. Loved having the kayak and the SUP! Leon pulled the kids in the tube, too :)

How would you qualify the food and drinks:
I touched base on this earlier. Lisa is a gem, we all felt so lucky she was on our charter! Every meal was incredible and she did such a good job catering to our group!

How would you qualify the entire experience of your trip:
Top Notch. I have done this charter trip twice before and this was by far the best trip any of us have ever been on.
