Captain Davin
Born and raised in western Nebraska, we didn’t have much sailing, but we sure had plenty of wind. I never imagined that wind would carry me to all the places it has. I became a certified junior diver at the age of 12, taking annual trips to Mexico, where the pull of the ocean began to beckon. This eventually led to my Rescue Diver certification and my current 50 Ton Master's License.
When people ask me what I do, I tell them I’m a poet—I just work on boats to make a living. I believe the way we see and interact with the world writes the story of our lives. Growing up on a lake, my first "car" was a boat. My sister and I would spend days taking turns pulling each other and our friends around on wakeboards, water skis, inner tubes—whatever we could tie to the back. I loved sharing those experiences with others, and that feeling never went away. There’s something about a happy heart that makes every moment worthwhile.
From being a graduate of the University of Wyoming to a school teacher, corporate national account manager, professional snowboarder, safety consultant, and now captain of One II Love, each chapter has progressively shaped the story of my life.
Seven years ago, I was a Spanish tutor for a brewery owner in the backwoods of Tennessee. He had a 29’ full-keel sailboat on a trailer beside his house. When I asked about it, he told me stories of being on Mel Fisher’s treasure-hunting crew when they found the Atocha, of sailing the Caribbean and Central America, and of life in the tropics. A year later, I signed up for sailing school in Key West—and never left the water. I sold my cabin and vehicles, gave everything else away (except a few books and my saddle), and bought a 41’ Morgan Out Island ketch. I became a commercial diver, a yacht technician, a first mate, and eventually, a captain. I’ve learned to sail from the bottom up, and it’s something I love sharing with others.
Come see what the rain looks like from beneath the surface, learn how to read a sextant at solar noon, and experience the feeling of floating in salt water while being pulled by the ancient forces of the trade winds through water as clear as the sky. These experiences have reshaped my life, and they’re sure to empower you as well. Discover new parts of yourself and write a unique chapter in your own story with me, aboard One II Love. I look forward to what happens next.
