    Kea is known as the "Gateway to the Cyclades", as it is the Cyclades' most western and closest island to Athens. Visitors are captivated from the first moment by the magnificent and unique natural landscape, villages, and historical relics as thousands of years of history unroll before their eyes. The many well preserved archaeological sites on the island, including the temples of Athena, Apollo, and Asklepios in the ancient city of Karthea, and the Kea Lion which was carved in stone prior to 600 BC, demonstrate the island's rich history.
