What to Pack for a Yacht Charter

Unlike a regular trip via plane or car, chartering a yacht comes with finer details to consider when packing your bags. We’ve written this post for you on what to pack when you charter a yacht so that you’ll always be prepared.

What to Bring

We asked some seasoned crew members what to pack for a sailing trip, and one message stuck out above the rest: Travel lightly!

Yachts tend to have limited space onboard. Even if your cabin is roomy, wardrobe space is small and suitcases don’t fit in them. This is why our first advice is to take soft luggage, such as travel bags, so you can store them when you are not using them on board.

You can dress as casually as you want onboard, but bear in mind that some bars and restaurants might have a dress code, especially if you are chartering in the Mediterranean. Nevertheless, don’t bring aboard your whole closet!

Lightweight clothing is the best option to throw over your bathing suits and be comfortable around the yacht. Moreover, you don't need to bring many shoes on board! On most yachts, guests must be barefoot, but it might be useful to bring flip flops, sneakers and water shoes for activities and shore excursions.

To complete your packing list, we recommend taking some beach cover-ups, rashguards and a hat to protect yourself from the sun. Additionally, don’t forget to make room in your phone’s memory, since you will take hundreds of photos!

What to Wear on a Daily Basis On Board | Yachting Outfits

Are you wondering what to wear on a yacht cruise? You’ll mostly be in shorts and tees during the day, so your boating trip packing list doesn’t need to be very long. However, evenings in the Mediterranean tend to mean dressing up, whether for a cocktail on board or a dinner ashore.

We recommend bringing some blouses, dresses or classic shirts and lightweight pants for nights in the beautiful Mediterranean coasts. In the Caribbean, on the other hand, the atmosphere is more relaxed and a waterproof jacket and a pair of long pants should be enough, unless you plan to visit a fancy restaurant.

Ensure the sandals or flip flops you bring are easy to walk in, as you’ll spend most of your time in them. You can also bring closed shoes or trainers with you if you plan on hiking. Make sure you also bring water shoes if you’d like to explore coral reefs on your trip (who wouldn’t?).

What Not to Bring

Most of the Ritzy Charters yachts will include basic toiletries like shampoos, soaps, and conditioners, not to mention sunscreen and plenty of bath towels, beach towels, and linens. Most yachts also provide fins and masks just for you, as well as a hairdryer on-board. You can confirm what’s available on-board with your broker prior to the trip.

Finally, don’t forget to pack your essential medications and seasickness remedies if needed. Make sure that any drugs you bring on board are legal in the destination you are visiting and, if applicable, carry the corresponding prescription.

Now that you know what to bring on a sailing trip, you can prepare your own quick and easy boat trip packing list.
